Former Kennecott Copper Corporation caboose on static display near Tooele, UT at the Oquirhh Mining Museum...it was as if the caboose was just placed there...nothing vandalized...conductors lamp still there...radio gear etc...all in place...as if it was still in use.

Nice! What is the make of the locomotive? It looks like a GE centercab on steroids!!

Nice shots. It is rare to find a caboose in this condition, without it having been restored.

What the heck is that thing nearest the camera in your last picture? It looks like a locomotive built by a committee.

Nice. Hope they can keep it that way.

Is the pantograph gone from the motor? Looks like it's missing?

My memory fails, but didn't Kennecott Copper run trolley poles instead of pantographs....

    Hank-

I can't speak for anything they might have had before the unit pictured. But it was originally equipped with a pantograph. This motor was used in dragging trains from pit to smelter. A "road" unit if you will....

They had other, smaller motors in the pit itself. Which came equipped with multiple power pickups. Including an extension cord that retracted by winding underneath the cab. A regular pantograph. And a second arm like "half" pantograph that could swing out and reach the trolley. These options due to the tracks, and poles being moved, as the earth was cut deeper into hillsides.

I've been on board a 700 series unit. Neat!

That's what it was...I thought I remembered seeing a weird trolley pole in a book that included photos of Kennecott juice jacks.

Did they buy the caboose new or is it from another road?

Harold...sorry I don't know it's history...the museum was closed the day I took these shots...I tried a relatively quick google search...and couldn't find it...you will see the former numbers of the caboose (faded stencils) appears to be 13661 or 19661. Not sure how many class 1 RR's had 5 or more digit numbered cabooses in their inventory...I know ATSF did...not sure of others...

Hmmm. BN had five digit caboose numbers. But I don't have a list. Know some were originally NP. Anyone have a BN caboose roster?
