Without going into to much detail I want to add turnout position feedback to my layout. I'm using an NCE PowerCab system connected to JMRI. I want to add Arduino based CMRI nodes which include sensors. I plan on routing the sensor from the CMRI Arduino thru the internal switch in the Tortoise. The CMRI node shows the sensor as active when you ground the sensor pin. It looks like the internal switch inside the Tortoise is isolated from the power to the Tortoise. I'm pretty new to this kind of stuff, and I'm wondering/concerned that they need to share a ground or something like that???? It would appear that this should work fine, but I wanna make sure before I start shorting things out. It looks like connection 4 and 3 or 2 would work on the Tortoise to accomplish what I want.

Yep, that is exactly what you can use. Then you can also use 5-6/7 for powering your frog depending on position
