IF I can add an HO layout, I'd have to add Howard Zane's Piermont Division. It's huge, it's in his basement, he's expanded his home twice to get more basement for it, and it's all steam, all the time, and has some BEAUTIFUL scenery. Now if he'd only done it in N scale! But it's worth seeing, if only for the inspiration. Allen Keller has done a tape and TWO DVDs of it, so if you aren't close enough to Baltimore to get a tour, get the DVD. Great ideas on there, believe me! And finally, we can do almost all of them in N scale.
Daryl, Keith Schaber's Union Pacific Blue Mountian layout is fully signaled. I think it ranks up there with some of the best also.
Tough question with many answers.. 1.The Clinchfield.. 2.Dave Vollmer's PRR Juniata Division.. 3.There are several other worth mentioning but, those 2 are among the best.
1) Bill Pierce's Cajon pass....... 2) I can't recall the gents name but he's got an awesome Tehachepi layout. 3) and San Diego's PDL lines, in Balboa park.
My favorite 3 are: Brian Morgan's Selkirk Division N Scale Lance Mindheim's Monon Layout N Scale Allen McClelland HO Scale V&O All three are now gone.
Some of these layouts I have seen pictures of some I have not, all are amazing. One suggestion I might make is posting a link to the site if they have it or someplace we could view photos of the layouts.
Some of my favorites are in no particular order Todd Treaster's old and new NYS&A Layouts. Scott Teague's NS Pocahotas Division. Brian Morgan's Selkirk Division Grant Eastman's SAR Plus a few others already mention here, but this are the ones I like the most.
It goes without saying that the one I have in my mind is the best one ever, but I am not going to let you cut my skull open to see it!
These are only nscale. I have seen some great HO ones aslo. Joe kasper's BN Kaw Valley (great layout to operate on: Fully signaled Joe Kasper's BN Kaw Valley Division Brian Morgans Selkirk Divison (Layout that really got me back into Nscale) Scott Teagues NS Pocahotas Division I purposely didn't include any clubs.
Scott, I had never seen nor heard of this layout, wow. I watched the youtube video. Wow. Scott, any links you know of with more shots, that is awesome stuff. I also would include Scott Teague and Grant's SAR (from what I've seen in photos of them) and I am confident that JUST TRAIN CRAZY's layout is gonna be there soon also, my best, Jan
From the photos and videos that Jerry DeBene (OC Engineer JD) has posted of his layout, it ranks right up there with the best. The major difference I see between Jerry's layout and most others is that he appears to have modelled the scenery as if it were viewed from his cab window, which makes the track views look more realistic. I, and I suspect most the rest of us, model a scene as if it were viewed from above, which makes for a great scene, but Jerry's videos look like you are riding along a railroad.
I have operated both the SAR and Mike Dannenmans and yes if you want to run trains they should be in the top 3.
Daryl I could only access the Tracktronics from your links on my google server:tb-mad:I would really like to check out the other two! Are there some different links or web addresses I can try?
Reid Bros and the Clinchfield for sure. I remember from years back Michael Moorman's Sogn Valley. Hand laid rail. Scratch built structures. The man left us some years back, but I pull out some of the old mags with articles on his layout for inspiration now and then.
Here is the newish link to Daryl's Rochelle Sub Layout, the Cumberland Valley was hosted on AOL Hometown which has been shutdown. Tractronics I can't find on their site. Daryl's layout is being torn down atm, shame. However, he has plans, check out his blog at UPRR Rochelle Subdivision Blog. Cheers, Alan.
