My friend Martin Hansen sent me an email two nights ago saying that the Mt. Emily Shay would be undergoing some maintenance in Prineville (OR) the next morning. They would be firing her up and taking her for a run, as the "last steam in Oregon in 2001." Heck I'm 200 miles away with Santiam Pass and all of it's snow in between. Yesterday Martin sent two pix taken, with six inches of snow on the ground in Prineville, as in "I told you so". GRRRRRRRRR
John, she's a 90 tonner, which is why she is the "second fastest" Shay in the US, right valve gear? Send us some photos of that lightweight 70 ton Graham County 1925, will you? John there is a thread on Chaski's railfan forum asking about the biggest or heaviest Shay. Do you have the specs on any of those four truck monsters you posted here a while back
Sure, I will, but I have a question. How do you post photos on here? I have been a member for quite a while, but have just never figured out how. Thanks in advance. Hayes Smith Jr. P.S. If you'd like to see some that are on the net that i've posted already, go to http://www.tamr.org/SR and go to the members photos section. Be sure to sign the guestbook and tell us what you think!
Ah, Hayes, it's you. We do a little corresponding over on Chaski Posting a photo here is a cinch these days, as long as you have one loaded on a website of your own or one of the photo storage places. You can't send one that is just stored on your hard drive When you select "Reply", look below the text box and you will see several buttons, one of which says "IMAGE." Click on that and another box will appear for you to type in the internet address for the photo you want to post. Once you type it in, click "OK" and the photo will be attached to your message. You can send some from the museum site if you don't have any handy on a site of your own. One caution: If you are using the "instant Graemlins" available to put in your messages, DON'T use one just before or just after your IMAGE. The little buggers, cute as they may be, have a little software problem and tend to eat the symbol that comes before or after them, and it will mess up the IMAGE link Case in point, I typed a . at the end of that sentence, then selected the "cool" Graemlin. He ate the period. You may also PREVIEW your message, with the image to be sure it is what you intended. Whew, that's enough.
Ok, thats cool. Lets see. Well, anyways, I saw the 25' yesterday. So far, shes just been put down for the winter, and they've taken the steam dome cover off, and thats about it. 604 is getting her 15 year rebuild done now, so she's totally de-lagged and jacketed and has her smokebox cover off and backhead appliances off. My old buddy isn't looking so good right now. I am helping the museum found a junior volunteer program too, so i'll be seeing the progress of the 4 and of the 1925 throughout the off season. Anyways, i'll leave you with a photo to think about. "]http://www.ci.salisbury.nc.us/nctrans/gifs/Sf299717.jpg[/IMG] We need to do this again!!!!
