I belong to the Nevada Shortline Group on another site. Not much of the rolling stock is left from the Tonopah and Tidewater RR from Ludlow, California to Goldfield, Nevada (on the Bullfrog and Goldfield). Number 99 is a doodlebug purchased in the 1920s and sold to a Mexican RR upon abandonment. ( I don't have my Myrick with me.) The only rolling stock that I know is at the Orange County RR Museum in the LA area. Hopefully, someone or some group will get together and save this great piece of history. The following email was posted and thought I'd share it: "I was at the former S-BC Benjamin Hill shops a couple days ago, on March 17, 2010. The remains of former Tonopah & Tidewater #99 gas-electric (doodlebug) is still there. Check page 166 for pictures. Along the way it was cut in half and today the leading half still exists at Benjamin Hill. It apparently was modified to pull a couple of car's (passenger?). The engine is still inside. Traction motors are gone. The right side of the body and about half of the left side are intact with number 2501 shown. The front is also intact. The left rear might have had a fire, it is rusty. It is painted green with yellow, maybe orange striping. Both the railcar and the EMD FT are extremely rare and somehow should be preserved before it is too late. It is amazing they have survived this long. Cosmetic restoration would be the way to go and is possible, lots of work especially on the 2501, but possible. Money and elbow grease would do it! Let's hope it gets done before we receive word that they have been scrapped. The entire shop complex, including a turntable, sand tower, water and fuel tanks remains the same as it has for many years, intact, large power tools (wheel lathes) and such are still there. In the car shop side are many box cars left, as it appears, the day the men went home. Outside are many old freight cars, cabooses, passenger cars in various states of conditions. In fact FXE track maintenance people still keep their trucks inside the gate along with spare parts for their work. Bud Bulgrin Brooklyn Park, Mn" Mike Lee
Well, the owner will give the car away to anyone who will restore it, but it will likely have to be SBC.
