Just thought I would finally jump in and say hello to all. I joined the forum a little while ago and have been spending some time reading old threads (Jerry's took forever, but was totally worth it!). This is quite an impressive little show with some incredible, inspirational talent! I am anticipating a nice, long stay here. I have been without a layout for about a year and a half now. My most recent layout was nearing completion of track and wiring, but was disassembled as we were expecting a baby (now 10 months old) and I needed to remodel the train room in preparation for a possible move within the next couple of years. Happily, the room (10.5x13.5 feet) is now complete with new paint, trim and a hardwood floor. (after eleven years in the house the concrete floor is finally gone!) After sitting on the fence with regards to a layout, I have decided to start a new one. I am basing my current layout on the Model Railroader Clinchfield project layout expanded to 8x13. I have liked that layout as long as I can remember, and needing something portable just made it seem like the right time for me to do it. Currently, it is nearing completion of basic benchwork. I guess you could say I'm a proto-freelancer. I model Burlington Northern equipment (late 80's - early 90's ... ish) in a freelanced environment. After several false starts, I have realized that modeling prototype scenes isn't my cup of tea (at least in my current space limits). The last layout I had which was most complete was nearly 20 years ago and that was the Atlas Scenic & Relaxed (expanded to 4x6). I remember back then wishing I could build the Clinchfield layout, so now I am. That's about it for now. I look forward to participating in some of the great topics to be found here. -Ray
