For the last few monthes I have s-l-o-w-l-y been working on my layout. So far I joined and built 2 hcd and I am currently testing out what my track arrangement will be and then clean a little the build and join another hcd until I have a complete room layout. Throughout the whole process I have had little helpers by my side.
Tonight my youngest 2 grandchildren were over the house and we went upstairs to The Train Room. So I placed a feeder wire and hooked it to the DCC system and I ran a train. We had a great time watching WSOR 4025 just going back and forth, forward and reverse. The smiles on their faces and the closeness we have just can't be beat. They are now telling me what structures need to go where.
For those who are parents for awhile your children will be the same way and then they will loose interest......but there will be a time when you have grandchildren and then the magic and joys of mrring will come back like never before. So as we insist on better products or start any flame wars lets remember the real joys of mrring. Happy layout building and or just get off of the couch and start building a layout.:teeth:

I'll be 60 this year and never had children but I am becoming more and more responsible for a 4yo who is in love with Thomas. I am hoping I can get the bug in him while I'm young enough to share it. Right now though it is all about crashing and rescuing.

Great to know the kids are involved, or efforts have been made to get them involved.

My youngest granddaughter is 4 also, and her brother is 2. Every year I take 1 grandchild to a trainshow. 6 of the 8 love trains and they would rather watch the trains operate just like a real train then crashes. Just have patience and don't forget about trainshows. And get him involved in planning on your layout you may be amazed at how much ideas he may have that sound really good. Have fun with him and never grow old around him.

The T-TRAK modular system has become a popular means of introducing children to the basics of constructing a model railroad layout.
