this christmas i got a new air compressor for my airbrush since my old one has burned up twice after being rebuilt a couple times. i was looking for something better than my old paasche d500 because i have had nothing but trouble out of it. i got a silentaire scorpion first but after finding it didn't produce enough air pressure i became discouraged. after getting on ebay and searching for a decent one at a decent price i stumbled on the perfect one. it is a campbell hausfeld fp2003. with all the painting i do i was looking for one with a tank and still quiet enought orun in the house while the wife and rugrat is in the house too. this is it, it has a 1/2 hp motor which is oiless and is also called quiet air technology which is new for them this fall. it sits on a 2 gallon tank along with 2 pressure gauges, one for the tank and one for the outlet pressure and has a built in regulator and on/off switch. this unit weighs only 20 lbs. and is fully portably. the only thing i had to buy extra for it was a moisture trap and an extra 1/4" nipple for the quick connect. i know this sounds like a plug for this thing but after everything i went thrugh looking this is great. i know there are alot of people here who paint there own equipment and some use the aerosol cans which gets old, i know from experience, and some maybe looking for a new compressor sometime. i found out the hard way that my old d500 was for short term use only not for long periods of spraying and continual running which they don't tell you in the books only when you need service and they don't back their warranty then. this compressor sells for the same price that you can get a d500 for approx. $100 at wally world. as for the noise it is a little noisy at first when you get it and plug it in but once a little air builds in the tank and also when the motor gets broke in( after about 5-10 minutes) it is no louder than a d500 and may even be a little less. now that i got this thing set up and running i have been spraying the heck out of everthing. well enough rambling i just thought when you start looking for a new compressor or a replacement you might give this one a look. mitch
I've got a 6 1/2 hp compressor with an upright 60 gallon tank. I can use the air brush until I can't stand it any longer without cycling the compressor. I'd reserve this monster for only those serious handymen! The plus side was that the cost was the same as one of those much smaller ones! Mark
cool if i had a heated garage i would have one but i gotta do my work in the house for now, so size and noise is at the top of importance right now.
tigerman i didn't get it on ebay i got it at walmart. they are available on ebay for $69 but they are factory reconditioned and the new ones are 150 on there. at walmart they are $99 with the moisture trap at $14. [ 31 December 2001: Message edited by: Mopac3092 ]
MOPac Thanks for the info. I wondered what they had in mind when they said it was a "store returned" item. Tigerman
60 Gal?!?!?!?!! Whoa. THAT's overkill. I think my 25 gal 5HP is too big..... Only 50 bucks, used D I am gonna get a 5 gal air tank,a nd fill it from the big tank, then 'brush inside till I run outta air. That should take quite a while at 20 PSI, with the tank at 125....
My 6 horse 60 gallon compressor sits in my unheated garage. But it also sits next to the wall of my train room with my workbench stiing next to the compressor. I just ran a pipe through the wall and put a dryer and preassure regulator on the work bench. Not a whole lot of noise and a goodly supply of air.
Sounds like this fp2003 is just what I'm looking for. [ 12 January 2002: Message edited by: Mike House ]
Hey, thanks a lot for the heads up on the fp2003. My wife went down to WalMart to see just what this outfit looks like and just couldn't leave without one. What a Gal!! I think I'm going to like it a lot. (the compressor AND the Gal) [ 12 January 2002: Message edited by: Mike House ]
