Here are a couple of wider shots of the electrical line from last week - first, looking up at the cell tower: And a shot looking toward the curve and showing the pole line's continuance; it goes up that hill and then to the left, ending on the layout edge.
Amazing how realistic the wire makes the scene look. One of those details thats everywhere in the real world, but seldom modeled. Great job as usual!
Here I am at may favorite place in the world - visiting a friend... She's as beautiful as ever. Next weekend she'll be doing a road trip from Chicago Union Station to Galesburg and on to Quincy and return - both days, on the BNSF main with no protection, just her Nebraska Zephyr trainset and running at track speed. Some seats are still available, see irm.org . Who says BNSF doesn't do heritage! Meanwhile, back at the Sub, it's early morning at Caliente... And a somewhat different angle: This last was shot using a front-surface mirror. You can really get interesting angles using the technique you can''t do any other way. The lighting was simple enough, a couple of lights on the other side of the hill and shoot.
Great to see that you got back up to IRM Jim!! I'll be out fanning each day of the Zephyr trip next weekend!
Hi Jim, I'm a big fan of your layout. You may have mentioned it before but there is alot to go through! What did you use for your static grass? (colour and brand etc.) Thanks.
Thank YOU, JamesS! The grass is all (so far) Woodland Scenics Static Grass, three different colors blended - I think golden harvest, wild honey, and light green. This mix came closest to matching the backdrop.
I wish I could have made it up there for the members weekend and get in some evening pictures.. oh well.. I'll have plenty of pictures and maybe some videos of the Zephyr out on home rails.
Thank you sir! I'm starting a new layout and after seeing your layout I want to model a similar area... Although mine won't be nearly as big...
That's where my heart is today - monitoring via the IRM GPS, a trainset older than I am running upwards of 80 MPH! Gotta love it! And to those who weather everything - notice how clean this 72 year old train is!
Here's my video (sorry its my older camera) http://youtu.be/OErPr8WEls0
Thanks! What a class act! Makes me VERY proud to have been a member of IRM for the past 30 years! Only thing better would be to get 92 (FP45 in warbonnet) running again - they have the parts - and out on the road. edit - at this minute, 82 MPH southwest of Aurora...
Well I have some news on the FP45.. It sounds like it will be repainted within the next few years to either warbonnet or kodachrome. Yeah it was basically going 80+ the whole weekend.. At one point.. it went 89mph.. Pretty darn impressive.
Warbonnet will bring in the people...unquestionably the most recognized (and loved) scheme in railroading of ANY kind.
An inspection train on the Sub today! I was notified last week that I have maxed out my flickr "free" photo hosting, the same way Photobucket did...and I won't pay for "free" hosting...so now I'm using google...we'll see... Here's an overview for those interested:
