I've had two loco trucks melt - one REALLY bad. Both trucks were of course replaced...got to be really careful around those switches. I had one malfunction where a loco ran into a switch uncommanded, still unsure of what happened there. Ever since that, when I park a loco on a yard track I make sure the direction is set AWAY from any switches.

Pictures can always be found on Flikr, jereising...dunno why it disappeared, I still have it.

I guess maybe your next install should be working hot box detectors. I'm not laughing...really I'm not. I hate to hear it when something gets fried.

New to the layout are some of Atlas' 5701 and 5800 covered hoppers. The etched roofwalks are a nice improvement, and the 100 ton trucks with 36" wheels (which got switched to metal immediately) were nice touches - but maybe it's time to get with the program here and go with body mounts...caught 'em at Bealville:

In other news a major redesign and addition to the website (see signature line) has been done.

Both the layout and the website look good Jim. As odd as it sounds...I went to the website looking at pictures and guess which ones I was hunting for most? The earthquake pics...LOL. I remember when that happened...wowsers !

Finally got the rest of my switchstands. They improve the look of the yard, make it look more finished.

MtnTrainman - Earthquake? I mean, I know my prototype is prone, but I've never modeled it...

Ohhhh yeah! What a day that was! It literally changed (and for the much, much better) the way I do scenery...

Thinking back, I probably should have ripped it out and started over - but being in a hurry, I propped and patched and made it work...thanks for the reminder!

Great pic. Where did the switch stands come from?

Another milestone on the Sub! I now have (if I want it) computer control and display! Here's the diagram, showing trains at Caliente northbound and East Oakville southbound:

The screen was done using the JMRI Panel Pro application, and interfaces with the layout through the Digitrax PR-3...

I enjoy going for the impossible shot; this is one such - taken through a front surface mirror.

The camera would appear to be in the corner of the layout to get that shot. And of course the long lens look, which I like a lot!

I would hard-pressed to notice that was a mirrored shot without you stating that fact first. Nice work!

Great shot. I now have a new computer background :) I hope my yard can look even 10% as good as yours. Excellent work

Thanks, guys! I like that shot a lot also...shooting with a front surface mirror can get interesting. And unmentioned is that it was also done with Helicon Focus - no way will my camera do that depth of field on it's own at that zoom level, and I can't throw THAT much light on the subject...

Nice. I always enjoy you sharing your layout with us.

    Is it done yet?
