No problem! With your layout, the coal would just be a run through. Savage Coal in Wasco gets the train and unloads in a little shack along the tracks. The silos are about 1000' away. Good modeling though! I'm enjoying the pictures!
Just thought I'd pop in and give a "thumbs up". I was watching the "Extreme Trains" episode where they follow a BNSF double stack from LA to Fort Worth. When they hit the Mojave, I could have sworn they were running on your layout.
Continuing The Oakville Sub layout tour - A UP stacker is comin' 'round the mountain: And a merchandiser completes the turn: Steel coils and ethanol - modern railroading at it's best! Auto parts and the finished product round the next curve:
Got another train for you Jim.. Saw it the other night coming home from work. BNSF runs cotton seed trains over the hill this time of year. About 30-40 Gunderson woodchip cars with various BN paint schemes, with white canvas tarps over the tops. I think I have a picture, but I'll have to dig around for it on my drive.
That's all I need, Art - a reason to buy more cars! NOT! Seems to me pretty much EVERYTHING runs over the hill sooner or later...
I really love that extra rail off to the side. I see that in so many places; really adds to the realism. Jamie
It's incredible! That is without doubt the easiest thing on the layout to detail, happened to see it at the hobby shop (back when I HAD a hobby shop) ten years ago and picked some up. Used it on the Old Sub, and now again. I think I'll move it around rather than keeping it in one location.
The tour of The Oakville Sub continues - An auto parts run begins to pass Wedding Cake Curve: And continues around: Now here's a rare sight on the Sub - there are no regularly scheduled passenger runs, so this must be a detour: An earthworm has rounded the curve:
Jim, I am enjoying the entire thread over and over again. I do like the last installment where I can see how the layout is laid out in the room. Almost feals like I am in the room on a walking tour. Thanks.
As you've probably noticed, John, I try to shoot so as to exclude the room - but there are times when you need to show it
Still just amazing And more amazing is the the Amtrk train was allowed to detour without being stuck in a siding for 10-12 hours......
The tour continues - getting close to Oakville now! A Z train rounds the large curve north of Oakville: A southbound merchandiser enters the same curve: Now a northbound stack train heads out: A southbound stacker and northbound auto train meet at the throat of the Oakville yard:
The Oakville Sub Tour Continues - Welcome to Oakville! A stack train is on the main while a general freight comes out of the yard heading north: The Oakville yard office is a busy place...likely noisy also with the main so close: The fuel pad is active as well: The Yard is busy as well, with the Oakville switch job working the ladder while an auto train bypasses on the main:
