And while waiting for the joint compound to dry, I worked on a couple cell towers - the one on the right was built for the original Sub:
Jim the layout is looking great, but the last 2 photo's don't look right there is some ugly yellow things in them. LOL I enjoy seeing your work.
Thanks, guys! It's great to have that done and out of the way - now final track work and ballasting while I'm waiting for woo woo woo woo woo woo to get some more WS bulk trees... And Nick, they DO own it, you know...
Hey Jim--Awesome progrees on a fantastic layout. Are the cell towers handmade or a kit? If you made them yourself, hows abouts a little tutorial?
Thanks Rick and Jan... Handmade, Ron. I think BLMA has something similar, if memory serves. There's really nothing to building them - some Evergreen nesting tubing and shapes, although a NWSL cutter certainly helps with keeping all those multiples the same length. And some brass rod for the whip antennae. Mainly you use your imagination The first one came about from a tower near where I used to work, and I figured it was time for a few more because of A) the size of the layout and B) the explosion of cell service. Where a tower used to have one head, I've seen as many as six heads on a recent vacation trip. Building the heads themselves is simply a question of lots of little pieces glued together. And of course then you need the tower bases with attendant electronics shack and wire fencing - working on that now... It'd be nice to have one of the lacy steel towers as well, but I'm afraid that's a bit small for N...
I completed ballasting this week: And began fencing the ROW: Had to get fencing back in the canyon - and this is NOT an easy place to access - but it's do-able: There's something about the canyon that draws me - I just love watching trains pass through it - you can almost hear the flanges squealing... Video someday!
It's just the posts, Traindork. I haven't got the spider trained just yet....:tb-biggrin: And thanks, guys! This is getting REALLY fun now!
Jim, I like watching the trains pass through the canyon also, please, more pictures! Tremendous layout, my best, Jan
