The last three of Norfolk & Western's M2 class 4-8-0s reside in the Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal yard. The Western Virginia Railroad Preservation Society (TWVRPS) has launched a fundraising effort to saving these locomotives, with a goal of $50,000 and a deadline of 31 December, 2008. I sure do wish I had money to give. I had read about these locos years ago in a book I have (before internet.) I have no idea where the book is now but it is nice to see at least one loco has been saved. Sure would be nice to see them restored to operating condition!
Best of luck! Also, I would hit up some of the cities these engines operated in and maybe they would offer help to have them as a Static Display in a local park. It's a great way for those cities to remember their RR history and a way to save these engines for future generations to see. We got some of our old engines out here even in operation at meseums and tourist railroads which is even a great thing for the cities as that brings in tax revenue of railfans that come to see them operate. :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin:
I hope that whom ever posted a vote that they would be sending "$1,000 to $10,000" means it as that would go along way towards their goal. :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin:
Yikes! There's a major potential support group. I hope someone has been in contact with them. Boxcab E50
