Great News! A family just moved in next door and their 16 year-old is very into modeling ! He has never had a layout to my knowledge, so I hope to help guide him toward that goal. He has some engines and cars and few pieces of track. As a gift to him I will be donating all of my HO track since I have moved to N guage . It is always nice to help out, but it is great for me also because I have someone else to chew the fat over about modeling (conversations with my 4-year old are fun but never in very much depth )! Happy Modeling!! John
Where were you when I was growing up John? You will make that kids day, and the track (any model railraod donation) when you look at the shear prices of stuff, it is really great. I had a releative of one sort or another who was really into Model Railroading, but as my family wasn't overly social I only got to see this layout twice...it was really neat though.
The really fun part is that he wants me to help him build a layout , when they are settled in. Till then he can help build mine ! Happy modeling!! John
John, Thats how to teach him right now.... You got the right idea! Till they are settled in you can have him help you which will build his knowledge and "track" of thought to build and work on his own! This in the end will help you when you do go to help him build his! He will know more on what he wants and how to do it! This is how I learned, at an early age of 8 or 9 years old! The fellow that passed away a few months ago was the man that got me into it as deep as I am today! The same exact way you are going to do this new neighbor of yours! I must say it does work and so on and so forth.... It did for me and I wish you luck that it does the same for you and him! Sometimes when this happens the fellow learning can get discouraged! Try not to let that happen! [ 06 October 2001: Message edited by: 7600EM_1 ]</p>
That is one lucky kid! One of my neighbors wants to get into modeling, but he would like to start with HO. I am trying to sell him the idea that N SCALE is better So far he has not done anything and blames it all on the fact that his job keeps him too busy I need neighbors like you Carter! Anyone know of a community that shares this ideal? Rob
Rob, Don't know of a community, but there is a house for sale down the street ...Maybe we could build an entire block of modelers, if you guys would move here ! John
I live in a small town with a depressed economy and there are a number of houses for sale. Ya-all come and buy! We'll have a great society of N-gineers! (HO modelers are also welcome. For that matter, if you like trains come on to Grant County, Oregon.)
Carter, land should be affordable down by your block...unfortunately, I am unable to move, but will consider it when the time comes and as long as there is a ski resort near by Rob
JOHN--GOOD DEAL!! This is the way to get new faces into the hobby. By helping the kid you will learn also. Too many people don't think about anybody but themselves. I am trying to bid a new job and go from night work to a day shift, one thing I am going to do is get back into BOY SCOUTS again. I enjoyed my time in SCOUTING when I was younger, and hope to be able help out where I can in my old troop. Kids today, what with all the BS going on in the world, need a lot of guidence that they are not getting! I hope to be able to show that a person needs to take time for one's self, (and I don't mean just watching the BOOB TUBE), to recharge the batteries, get yer karma straightened out, whatever you call it. I have found that MODEL RAILROADING does it for me. We need to show that a person needs a hobby to get a little more out of this life. I'll get down of the soapbox now, NEXT?!? You are doing a good thing JOHN, keep it up, and you both will be enriched!
Hmm... Lucky kid! Maybe I should bug the neighbors to see if they have a whole boatload of code 55 ME flex they don't want....

I still MAKE time for my railroad. John
