Yes, given that it will be above anyone's head I can put a large radius in the corners. The issue with the 'Level 1' reverse loops is not the tractive effort of the locos. It is that a 24 car unit train of modern grain cars would likely string-line on a tight curve like that. by putting an Atlas Geep somewhere toward the middle it should do quite well. You see, Atlas Geeps have enough push to reduce the lateral pressure on the string but not so much that if something stalls they will push it off.
Viewabilty - Measure Twice While I was sure in my head that folks would be able to view the top shelf even when seated I did up a diagram to verify this and to get another idea of the spacing between shelves. In the picture we are shown approximately 3' from the trains. It is clear Laura would be able to view the trains on the viaducts. The 'Thrommer' trains as shown are 12 pixles which equals 3"s. This was done so the appear to be more than a blur. As it is, there is enough room to pass under the other.
Birthdays have always been a time of planning for me. This year a series of realty checks have forced a serious retro-design for the Grey and Grandure VI. For the forseable future it will be a 2'X8' with switching and a small 'interchange yard'. with a 18"X8' yard loosely based on Lynn H. Wescott's Plan 10, Pittsburgh, Midvale & Ironton RR My intention is to build, wire, and scenic this to near completion before expanding any further. Life is good and it goes on.
Thanks Ken, Ya, just mostly resource limitations. The college where Laura teaches cut all tutoring from 13 to 2 hours. I, as a cashier make more than she does teaching 3 college classes!!! She got the email while we were on vacation. Talk about a buzz kill. Still, I am not complaining. My life is good and full. My vision is not any worse, my mind is not bad for a 60 yo, and my over all health is 'normal'. I can do 3 miles up and down hill in 45 minutes. I can pull an all nighter and stillgo to work. ---
To Clarify, (layout plan): * Two semi-concentric ovals * Plan 10 built inside of them * A 'line' going to an 'L' with a yard /staging In theory the layout will support 3 trains: * Switching * The yard * Inner and outer lines More later
I'm not really back. My wife's 2nd daughter has 'boomeranged' and now occupies my living room. I recently had to take down a 2'x8' portion to make room for 'dressers'. Life goes on. All of that said I was welcomed as family vs 'plus 1' at Thanksgiving dinner. Well worth the sacrifice. I'll be posting on and off over the next few months as I begin to reclaim space.
Yes, definitely 'temporary' - I guess if you call '2 years', 'temporary'. That is what I anticipate it will take to get her on her feet and moving in the right direction. Still, when all is said and done, I'm bragging. With just the right direction her now 5yo son will become a model railroader or some such. GandG Plans: (near term) Have two ovals of track powered and running by December 25th. Prepare freight cars for the family to decorate. Have a 'village making party' so we have a seasonal town.
