This year I did I something I would harldy ever consider doing. I gave away all my G scale trains and track. Yep. One of my best friends came into town as a pre xmass visit on her way to visit family. Her little four year old son is train obsessed so I gave him my Bachmann porter and cars and track. A very nice selection of stuff. As a chronic train hoarder, I was very surprised I could actually bring myself to part with it. Right now i'm feeling pretty darn good about it too. I hope he runs the wheels off those things. He also got some old issues of MR to look at.
Chronic train hoarder? You too?? Goodonya, for your selfless sacrifice! I know it would be hard for me to part with some of my stuff.
That was indeed very nice of you! Keep checking back on this young fellow. Nudge him along. Hopefully he'll help fill the ranks of model railroaders in years to come! Boxcab E50
Hemi, I am sure my collection is tiny by many peoples standards. I tend to hoard weird stuff. A year ago I finally trashed a bunch of beat to hell HO scale tyco stuff. I am glad to find a home for the G scale. Trust me it feels good. His mom kept making him say thanks. I can't imagine he even understands what thank you means at four. But I told him the train really needed someone to take care of it because I was too busy. Over the course of two days that porter sat on the table at all the mealtimes. In the car it was held in simons arms like a baby. I have a feeling the porter has a good home now. Being with a little boy who likes trains was a wonderful way to pass some time. I lost my mother about a week ago and had been feeling pretty low, but my rail buddy really cheered me up. Boxy, He got a really nice setup: more then an oval of track. A WP&Y combine with lights, a narrowguage style boxcar, a narrowguage style low side gondola, a set of three mining cars, a logging caboose, and of course the porter. I think he's been nudged pretty hard.
Geeky is a regular Santa Clause. He also gave me a book on steam locos just the other day. Thanks again
No Problem on the train book. Hope you like it. I happen to be really enjoying looking at a RDC someone left with me. Warning to the rest of you. Colorado50 gave me a sample of his grandmas fudge. I think I drank half a carton of milk after just a tiny taste. Talk about rich deserts. If he ever offers to give you some chocolate, make sure to stock up on stuff to wash it down with.
Sounds to me like somebody's mom raised him up pretty well. My mom is gone too, but I see her influence all around me and always will. I hope you have as great a holiday as Simon will. Cheers, ACLer
I always believe the greatest gift you can give someone is time together. You created a memory that will last possible forever. If the little boy grows up to have an avid interest in trains, he will never forget you and maybe someday he too will inspire someone else. Have a Merry Christmas. Bernard
