Would some one be able to tell me what locomotives CPR used in the late 50's and 60's to pull "The Canadian" Passenger train across western Canada

    FP7A, F7B, FP9A and F9B primarily as well as RS10s, FPA/FBs and GP7s.

Did they ever own or use Fairbanks Morse units on these trains? Keep thinking I've seen picture. Somewhere...? Or was that the "other" RR?

The Fairbanks Morse units were used mainly on the southern BC lines such as the Kettle Valley Rwy. the Boundary Sub, and the line through the Crowsnest. You probably saw a picture of the FM units on the Kettle Valley or Kootenay Expreses that used to run from Vancouver to Calgary via Penticton, Midway, Grand Forks, Nelson, Cranbrook, Crowsnest, and Lethbridge.

BTW, I have a picture of a pair of the steam gen. equipped GP9's pulling the Canadian along Morant's curve.

    Tyler-

These were "Erie Builts"? Or were they "C-Liners"?

A few Trainmasters (8901-8904?) were equipped with double steam boilers and full width short hoods for a short period.

Well, as usual I'm a day late and an answer short, but Walt Lankenau of Railfan mag said:

" FP7 and 9 A's and B's, and sometimes boiler equipped GP9s. The Toronto section sometimes ran with Alco FA's and RS10s."

Seems to agree with the original answer. Welcome to Trainboard, Tyler. I'd enjoy seeing your photo at Morant's, one of the most scenic places in the world. :D

I dug out my copy, and a fine shot that is. Looks mighty cold. I had a shot of a steamer taken there from way up high, beautiful. Is there a place you can get to that is a high vantage point, without mountain goating in? I have never been there, but think it is one of the most picturesque places in North America. :D
