http://www.carrtracks.com/ind75.htm The C&O ran by my grandfathers farm south of Peru Indiana. I always thought it was a great place to take some photos of the C&O since a county highway ran on the other side of the tracks. After years of scouring the internet for C&O shots I ran across these. Both shots are taken from the same spot, one looking south, the second looking north. Of course the tracks are gone now. The old right of way is still there and now I own the farm.
Thanks for some wonderful photos, and I hope the farm is profitable (on average) for you and your family. What are your crops, besides a very nice model layout.
On the real farm we grow corn and soybeans. we hope to finish corn harvest today at the farm where the picture was taken. We are having a great year. lots of money for trains!! I need to get over there ans take some after shots to compare to the original shots from the website.
They had actually just put in welded rail just a few years before. Then pulled them all up after the merger into the Chessie System.
Nice pictures. I'd be curious to know, do you have any knowledge as to why they pull up the line after the Chessie merger?
They has B&O line on the east side of Indiana that it was felt was more suited to the buisness. The C&O line had some really sharp curves and steep grades.
