Add a Brightline train or two to to my list of wanted trains. I certainly don’t need passenger trains on my layout but I sure would like them.
I finished my first pipe load. It’s just placed on the car to see how it looks. The Mets are playing now and the Jets are on Monday Football so tomorrow I’ll secure it on the flat car and take it for a ride on the layout.
I straightened the strapping on the load that was skewed. These are done and running on the layout. In the photo it’s pretty obvious that it’s thread around the load but when the cars are on the layout and seen from a normal distance of 2+ feet it looks like yellow strapping. BNSF FAN, thanks for showing the loads you made in your layout thread. Seeing yours inspired me to make these.
As a general rule I think for most of us more layout is better than less though I believe a layout can be too big and too complex for one person. I should have an update later this week or next week.
Layout size (even in scale dimensions) is just another aspect of model railroading for which there is no "best" answer (or goal) for everyone. My little N scale 36"x80" HCD layout-in-progress is a scale 480' by 1067' with 1.5 scale miles of through trackage, excluding sidings, yards, etc.
I agree, Andy, model railroading is not a one size fits all hobby. I dream of building a huge layout but in reality the small spare bedroom I have is about the right size for me.
Thank you sir Always glad to be a bad influence You did a great job on those Joe. I have way too many already, but it makes me want to build more.
Unless I want to be a bachelor, I negotiate for MRR space. A corner of our spare bedroom/office suits my HCD layout-in-progress just fine. And the desk does double duty as a light workbench. I could have chosen a larger corner in the living room, but the neatness/sound/decorum requirements that came with that space were not really workable.
You’ve been an influence or maybe an inspiration. Your truck frame loads were first and now the pipe loads. I know what you mean about wanting to build more. I will get another 60’ bulkhead flat and make a load for it. After that I won’t need any more but I’ll have plenty of stirrers and thread left over so maybe I’ll make more just because they are easy and fun to make.
When I started this thread I was planning a 3x10 layout to fit on one side of a small den that I would share with my wife and would serve as a train room and office. Fortunately, the deal on the house we were buying fell through and we were able to get our current house which is a small 4 bedroom house so I have a train room and my wife has an office. We could have made sharing room work but it would have been way less than ideal.
Just like our nation's westward expansion (and subsequent railroads that followed it), manifest destiny drives model railroad layout expansion. "...From sea to shining sea!"
This is as much as I can expand the layout. I’m out of room, but I’m not complaining. I’m considering putting a river, an engine yard and maybe a residential area on the new section.
I’m not a fan of double deck layouts so I doubt I’ll ever add an upper deck. I’m pretty happy with what I have.
I started gluing the foam down. The weights are on the parts that are glued. The pink foam on the right is just placed there and will be glued down tomorrow.
