I have been in "N" scale now for close to 20 years now, and I will hold my work up beside most of what is out there and be proud of it. I am NOT a "rivet counter", nor am I a "late comer". I just don't take myself, or the hobby too seriously. I don't get so wrapped up in fiddly details that it becomes work, and therefore, to me anyway, takes the enjoyment right out of it. Putting tiny, intricate detail on an "N" scale loco is not my cup of tea, in fact, no longer even possible for me, so it is more stress than it is worth. That doesn't make it fun. If it's not fun, it's not worth doing......... IT IS A HOBBY, and say what you will, but they are plastic, and to me THEY ARE STILL TOYS (highly detailed, and intricate TOYS).........and I enjoy playing with them every chance I get!!
You have your hobby, and I have mine.....................enjoy it :)

Much to my dismay I am not a true model railroader. I may have to hand in my engineers cap. I suppose I can switch to Lego trains, they look like fun.

    C'mon guys lighten up.

Besides, how do you know warren buffet doesn't have some newer models?

As too real model railroading, I'd say that if you go look at older train magazines the quality is different than now in the articles. Yes some good scratch building, but a lot of layouts had what was then state of the art RTR stuff; today we'd think it's toylike, but then it was good stuff.

And I just want to add, that if you are a REAL model railroader then how do you justify buying anything that is ready to run? I mean a REAl model railroader would scratch build everything on his layout.
