I got a reply to this inquiry on another forum; in talking with the person who posted the reply, we decided to post his reply here to see if more people would take notice. So here it goes:

    Nick,

The bridge you refer to is part of the remains of the PRR, PC and CR's Elk Run Industrial Track. This was a branch off the Cresson Secondary between Cresson and Lindsey, just west of Punxsutawney. It's main purpose was to serve the coal mining firms located in and around Anita, north of Punxsy. Not sure just when it was abandoned but would guess circa late 1970's - early 1980's.

    Ron Stafford

I have a little more information, but I have to organize it a little before I post it. I am still interested in any info on both the PRR and B&O line to Anita and the Adrian Mines. Thanks!!

Yes, Terraserver has pics for all over the continental US and for some large cities overseas. It is completely free to use, as far as I know (I've never been charged, and they don't ask for any ID).

The only problem is zooming in on the specific place that you want!!! When you search for an image, it starts you out from a high altitude. I haven't been able to find my way around an area 10 miles north of my house, even though I visit the area all the time.

    Just go to http://terraserver.microsoft.com
On the left hand side there should be a text box for searching. The site has the photos like in the link I provided; topographic maps; and for high-population areas, SPIN-2 satellite images (which aren't very good).

    E-8,

The picture from Trains is in the May 1996 issue, page 30, top picture. It was taken by Brian Szczepanski. Unfortunately, the pic is very dark and the bridge is hard to see, especially the small walnut (?) tree growing out from between the top of the outer most pier and the bridge itself.
