Hi all, I just uploaded a few videos to YouTube of stuff I shot on VHS back in the late 80's. If any of you has the time, check these three out and let me know if you want to see more. I have a good amount shot from 1987ish to the early 2000's. Here are the 1st two I uploaded. 1. BNSFFAN Railfanning Volume #3 Part 1 2. BNSFFAN Railfanning Volume #3 Part 2 3. BNSFFAN Railfanning Volume #3 Part 3 Thanks and enjoy!
They transferred really well. How did you digitize these? I have some Sony 8mm tape videos from the 1990s. I bought a kit with a dongle to digitize them, but when too much movement dominates the screen (such as a passing train), the video gets choppy. I added subtitles with dates and locations.
Wow, now that you ask, I'm realizing it's been 20 years since I bought a combo VHS and DVD player/recorder. Anyway, used that to copy the old VHS tapes to DVD. Was able to upload straight to YouTube from the DVD. I may try longer segments the next time around.
Do I want more? Hot dang! Yes!!! Yes!!! Yes!!! That was a fantastic era at the time, right around the mergers at CSX and NS. The variety of roads seen is amazing.
Wow. Not just the sights, but the sounds of older EMD and GE. And that steamboat "hooter" whistle on 1218. Nice!!!
Thanks Mike and everyone. I put a few more up last night and will do some more this week. I can post the links here if you all want or you can check out the channel. What works better? Oh, and it may take me a bit to get to them but at some point I eventually started using a tripod and thins get a bit more stable.
Here you guys go. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDPYcbZ1YMJx_VSfkqzrDpA It will grow and I need to do a decent video of the layout to put on there as well. Thank you all for being interested. Sharing and knowing folks enjoy it is really what makes it worth doing.
Oh, that's sweet! The sounds of those engines are amazing. Plus the variety of road names - these days only heritage units remind us of our railroading history. Keep it up!
Nice!!!! I like the SOU high short hood power, especially those GP30s. Or running an SD long hood forward!
The RF&P unit at the "service station" in the first video is a real treat! I love the train chasing segment - with one of those "chop-top" Dash 8's - about 5 minutes into the second video (soon after some GEs impersonating Alcos...). I thought it was an anesthetic... I forget all my aches and ouches when I watch the stuff...
