This is the place where the original Denver & Rio Grand narrow gauge rail line over Tennessee Pass crested the Continental Divide coming up out of the Arkansas River drainage on the Atlantic side and passed over into the Eagle River drainage on the Pacific side of the divide. The old narrow gauge roadbed still exists beyond this point and is now called the Old Railroad Run on the Mitchell Creek Loop Trail. Behind me the old roadbed is covered by US Highway 24. The new standard gauge tunnel bored 200 feet below from 1889 to 1890 resulting in the narrow gauge route being abandoned.
