I have been working with the "anonymous" photographer and I will be able to post these images (plus a few more) within the DHVM soon. It is D&H Tender #35508 which is faded; but, readable in the other images. Good to hear from you again too. I am working several related posts on this tender here and on other forums too. The debate seems to be which tender is being used for CP 2816 and if it is NOT the D&H tender, then where is it now? Below are some great shots I revceived for usgae in the DHVM that I plan to post once I know the D&H Tenders status. It looks like it still has journals on the trucks! Maybe there's roller bearings installed underneith the journal lids .. but if there are no roller bearings, it won't be running on any line in the U.S.! Yes, I'd have to say both tenders above are the same. They carry the same number, just change the reporting marks (easier for the computer). Looks like it was re-furbished and painted. Friction bearing trucks can run in the US. Friction bearings have been banned from interchange freight service only, they can still run in company service or any non-interchange use such as passenger excursions. I would bet that that tender is from the D&H as some of the old heads at Saratoga tell me there were a bunch of (?#) tenders saved for use as liquid storage cars for fuel or water. I'm new to the D&H but I'll keep asking.
It's Official The photos on your URLs are indeed of an ex-D&H tender and are related to the restoration of CPR Hudson 2816. D&H 35508 is the former tender from Delaware & Hudson 4-6-6-4 Class J Challenger No. 1517, built by Alco, of Schenectady, N.Y. , in 1940. This remnant of D&H's steam era was commandeered by Canadian Pacific Railway for their steam program and refurbished (as shown in photo 35508-03) as CP 35508 -- a canteen or water car, to assist in operating CPR Hudson 2816 and tender carrying treated water. The tender will be painted in Canadian Pacific's tuscan-and-black livery with gold striping to conform with the steam passenger livery being applied to 2816. Locomotive refurbishment continues apace with a yet-to-be determined completion date. The refurbished boiler and smokebox will be reattached to 2816's running gear mid-to-late February after which a minimum 60-working-day time-frame is needed to reassemble the locomotive.
