This does the same thing as the Digitrax AR1 a section of the PM42, or Tony's PS Rev. As I read it, it uses infra red detection to trigger phase reversal in the reversing section rather than the momentary short circuit detection used by Digitrax. None of these will control a reverse loop for DC (that requires switching the main), but the TCH unit can be used as an auto-reverse for "back and forth" DC operation.
