Sometime in the past week the New Post, Reply, Reply With Quote, and Edit software stopped responding to the Enter key when typing, at least on my computer. This appears to be unique to the TrainBoard because no other software, application, or website has this problem. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a work-around?

OK, browsers read coding differently. IF your browser starts to act up, clear your cache (temp internetfiles and cookies), close the browser and try again. If that does not work, use a different browser like Firefox. Firefox runs a little slower than others because it does the best at reading scripting and is more secure than other browsers. Stock browsers (Internet Explorer and Safari) tend to suck (safari is the worst browser out there)

    Hank,

There have been no software updates and no adjustments/changes in functioning of the site in quite some time.

Thanks for your replies. Charlie, Glad to hear that no "adjustments" have been made recently. I'm all too familiar with a well-meaning coder adding "a quickie patch that only fixes this, and doesn't affect anything else.", but results in an annoying unintended consequence. I also participate in another vBulletin hosted forum, ToyotaNation, which does not have this Enter key problem, verified a few minutes ago. This problem started a month or more after the last Win7 and IE9 update, and before the latest update on this past Friday. I clear cache and history after each use of IE9, and Allow Cookies from very few sites, TB being one. However, Bremner, thanks for your suggestion, I'll perform a full Registry and C:/*.* cleansing in case some minor flag has been set or reset erroneously.

I just did a little searching and found this problem has been known to the vB developers since last summer. Also, that it is not limited to just IE users.

Thx Ken, I was beginning to doubt my sanity, among other aging body peripherals. I've run various cleansing applications without success. I now will review and possibly replace the keyboard driver(s), then experiment with changing its interpretation from American English to UK English, finally see if there's a driver that interprets Southern English as typed by a Yankee New Englisher ....LOL

I have solved the Enter Key problem. (at least temporarily...LOL)
This problem exists with only IE10, not with IE9 or earlier. I had forgotten that I had upgraded to IE10...shame on me!

The workaround is to direct IE10 to operate in the IE9 mode by doing the following.....

1 - Click on the Tools icon in the upper right corner of your screen. The Tools icon that looks like a gear.
2 - Select (click on) F12 Developer Tools about half-way down the drop-down menu. The Developer screen will appear across the bottom of your main screen.
3 - Select (click on) Browser Mode at the top of the Developer screen.
4 - Select (click on) Internet Explorer 9. This will cause IE10 to operate in the older IE9 mode, including all Keyboard character conversions.

As Ken said earlier, vBulletin has been aware of this problem since last Fall, and claim they are working on it. Apparently the release of IE10 caught vBulletin with their knickers down before ALL key strokes had been thoroughly tested and debugged.

EDIT - Apparently you must do this change each time you shut-down and re-open Internet Explorer. I'll see if there's a way to make this change a default, and let y'all know.

Unfortunately, any change to the browser compatibility mode is cleared each time that IE10 is closed according to Microsoft's F12 Developer Tools instructions. Therefore the compatibility mode change must be re-entered each time a TB member using IE10 wants to Post something....bummer.

However what I find interesting is that the vBulletin application for the ToyotaNation forum recognizes the Enter Key correctly, but the TrainBoard application does not. This may indicate that there is a particular setup procedure that was overlooked when the vBulletin hosting software was adapted for TrainBoard. Was this adaptation done by one or more TB members, or by a third-party company?

Mike, have you just upgraded to Internet Explorer version 10? If so, try my work-around in Post #7.

Yes on IE10. I did what you said & it went back to the way it was, except here. Enter button still does not work.

Interesting, because the Enter Key works fine for me when I perform the fix described in Post #7,
    like right now...

Note, the fix will be erased whenever you Quit IE10. You will have to perform the fix again the next time you execute IE10 to post on the TrainBoard.

    Good Luck.

I also have an issue with Win 8 and IE10. Win8 will not let you use a previous version if IE. When it updates it upgrades IWX to IE10.

Also with Win8/IE10 you can not manually skip to another line when posting. But when end of line is reached it will skip to next line.

There is a workaround that's works only one post at a time. In the upper left click the a/A box and lineskip will work but any smiles will display in its low level view. Do a preview to see the smile.

Win8 and IE10 suck big time.
    See ya

I had a similar problem but by changing something in my users profile I've not had any further problems.

Profile was one of the places were I had looked, when trying to learn W8/IE10. I found nothing to alter.

Well, I'm on Firefox -- but in Settings, has anyone tried the difference between the Enhanced WYSIWYG edit box and the "Standard" Interface box?

I have been using the Full WYSIWYG option for years now. Hmmm. Perhaps it would be worth playing around with that setting.

I went to "Settings" top of page, scrolling down, then to "General Settings", scrolling down toward the bottom you find three options and I clicked on "Standard Editor". Problem appeared to be solved. Qutoe: ""Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use all of these options. If you experience problems when posting messages, try switching to a different interface type.""

I did, BUT I suspect it was something done internally by one of TB's staff that actually solved the problem.
