Some days are better than others. I was in Tarboro around 2 pm; locals said the train comes through around 11 am.

At least it was good to get outside a little!

    Flash,
Great photos.... sad, but true of that part of our state :( Gone in Tarboro is a lot of great stuff, including the old, ornate station that wasn't saved.... I do have a picture of streeet running in Tarboro, albeit, I only caught it one time.

    Harold:

I am sure that is true. Sure wish I was there when the train came through Tarboro. I guess it goes to Rocky Mount? Where does it go to the east? My folks were saying to Norfolk, Virginia, but I thought Norfolk might be on the old ACL mainline. Maybe to Greenville, NC? I know that the east bound in Selma goes to Camp LeJeune Marine Corps and Beaufort (Havelock), but that is the old Southern RR from Raleigh.

Maybe this should be in the Fallen Flags forum? [IMG]

Two NS engines wait under I95 for clearance across the CSX-NS diamonds in Selma, NC. They are pulling about 40-50 grain cars back towards Raleigh; don't know if they are full or empty. Didn't see any people there at 3:30 pm Sunday afternoon. This is old SOU tracks.

So, what started out unpromising became an okay weekend. At least I saw the family here. [IMG]

The SCL Rocky Mount division took the rails east to Tarboro and eventually northeast to Suffolk and Norfolk. It also went South from Tarboro to Greenville and a connection to Kinston.

If you look down the "street" of your first picture, you can imagine where I took this photo:

Thanks, Harold. I do like the GP40s and the Chessie scheme. [IMG]
