Ok I have just learned how to take a picture without flash and keep it from getting too blurry. And I learned how to crop. Check out this picture I took of my layout! And of course I have to show the mogul. Obviously my favorite loco in my stable. I'll post more as I get better.
Joe: Those pictures are great. To take better pictures get a tripod for your camera. Turn off the flash completely, use overhead light source, take longer exposures and use the highest f stop (lens opening the camera has whuch is the smallest aperture. Have fun ... Stay cool and run steam.....
Wow! That Mogul sure photo's nice! What a great shot! Your track and ballast look nice too, now i want to see more photo's of your layout. -Robert
Joe, very nice photos. Are you using digitial or film? I moved to digital a few years ago and LOVE it! Mind you, I went with a profession camera since we would be doing alot of macros, but I have seen very good results with consumer digitals. Bob is right. Most of the photos I have shot for the covers of Ztrack are with no flash. I increase the exposure times and play with different lengths of exposure. I have had great results! A tripod is a MUST when shooting Z. I can't wait to see more photos! More, more, more please! Rob
Thanks for the kind words as always guys. I appreciate your support! Robert I will be posting more as I keep learning. Right now I am having fun. Bob, I used a tripod and no flash, now I will have to try messing with the aperture. Rob, it is a digital camera, and I am finally getting around to learning how to really use it. My wife usally does all the work, but now I got some time so hopefully I can produce better pictures. [ December 19, 2005, 08:25 PM: Message edited by: JoeS ]
Rob: I find using a tripod indespensible in N scale. Using a high f stop(smaller lens)opening and longer exposure times will give you a great photo. Have fun..... Stay cool and run steam.......
great shots! i am also playing with my camera now..and in a closet i found a 1000w camera-lamp! now i finally got some useful picures. joeS what kind of ballast are you using? it looks great!
HenrikH, I am using woodlan scenes fine cinders. I know woodlan has a bad rap with the ballast people, but I soak it good with 91% alcohol before applying glue. So I never get any floaters. However I do paint the rails and ties first with a combination of different blacks, mostly grimey black. The one thing I learned from other posters is to make the rails have a hint of the same color as the ballast as if powdered residue is left on them. It really downsized the rail and made it look more realistic.
I have several Railfan photo's of Class P and P-1 engines that can be found at URL: http://www.trainweb.org/dhvm/dhrr_steam.htm
Ok, I took another one from a view I had posted a few months back. Boy what a difference once you figure that camera out!
