I was going to post this in the Frisco forum under the Fallen Flags section, but I thought I'd have some fun & see if my fellow Trainboarders can guess what its purpose is/was.
Hmmm. Well, a guess. Maybe intended for loading rail? (Bolted used sections. Or ribbon.) But it does look different from those I have seen. So maybe not. A portable ski jump for employee fun days? Boxcab E50
Jason & Biggerhammer are both correct- it's a car used for the loading & unloading of bi-level & tri-level autoracks. I took a pic of this one in the Sherman, TX yard in the early 1990s, and personally I thought it was kinda out of place- I figured it would be found up in, say, Tulsa, where Cherokee Yard is located. This would make a dandy modeling project, and the finished model would look good next to a ramp of some sort.
Bob...any more pics? With my dozen autoracks (old open style) I could use one of these... I'll take the challenge! p.s. you still want them CSX's?
Interesting. Nothing like this is in use anywhere in this region of the USA. Any site vehicles are unloaded, uses a fixed or portable steel ramp. Always has. Movement to smaller locales, even if there is still rail spiked down, is by truck instead. Ever watched those clowns unloading new cars? It's no wonder there are lemons. They beat the daylights out of the autos. And think it's funny. Boxcab E50
