I also posted this in the inspection pit section.

I was down visiting my Grandad this weekend and noticed a very interesting article in the local paper. It seems as though Tacoma Rail (which is owned by Port of Tacoma) is selling the former MILW section of rail from Maytown to Chehalis. The buyer.....Port of Chehalis and Lewis co. According to the article there are no plans for tourism. They simply want the line to generate income that will be generated from car storage fees. This is essentially all that Tacoma Rail used this section of line for as well. There was a group of bikers that wanted to buy this section of ROW to turn into a bike trail.

Although I would like to see a tourist train operate over this section of line, I am glad it will remain intact vs getting ripped out and scrapped to make way for another damn bike trail. We need those like we need a hole in the head.

What is left between Maytown and Frederickson, which Tacoma Rail would choose to keep that portion of the line?

    Ken-

There is not much left on the line from Fredrickson to Maytown. About the only thing there is are sidings for storage of train cars. The last time I was out looking at the line the tracks at Maytown were chucked full as well as the Skookumchuck yard and the tracks at Western Jct.

About the only thing on this section of line with any type of industry needing rail service is Global Industries that occupies the shops at Western Jct. When CEECO shut down the guy that ran the CEECO opened Global. Which is the same type of operation that CEECO was. One of the first pieces of equipment that was rebuild there was a couple of White Pass & Yukon diesels.

Interesting , I was there a few years ago and visited a Milwaukee Road Superdome (I heard it was scrapped not long after that) . Also the wheelsets for the WP&Y locomotives were made here in Maine and shipped there for assembly. Interesting connection..
