Too many years are now gone by. I cannot think of where that view was taken. Was it up on top of The Hill? (Hillsdale?)

Know I have a few slides showing some Milw action about circa early October of 1979. I wonder if we were out photographing on the same day? We may have even seen each other, and not known..........!

Wow, those are some tired looking F units. I have a few pics my dad took of Little Joe 79 in the scrap yard in Chehalis, Wa, in 1975-6. I wish I remembered more from up there.

Is the B unit a road slug?

Yes. Numbered either SE1, or SE2. I got to look inside one. It had several feet in depth of concrete added for ballast.

There were five total slugs. Two were back east. SE1,2,3, SG1,2. SE1-3 were were ex-F7B units. Set up to mate with F7A units.

SG1 was an ex-RS3. (Third unit numbered 463.) SG2 was an ex-F7B. These were set up to run with GE units.

Three were based in Tacoma. SE1,2, and SG1. Used primarily either on The Hill, or the log trains to Morton and Raymond. They did occasionally stray elsewhere. Or even main line on weekends for a DFE.

IIRC that picture was taken at the top of the hill. Seems to me they ran around their train and went back down for the second part of it. You are right, a long time ago and memories are fuzzy. We chased a lot of trains that trip.
