In a week or so I'll be heading over to eastern Oregon to try and capture some interesting photos of these two narrow gauge players. Hope the weather cooperates.
Cool! I'll be hoping for plenty of pictures. Thought I'd heard a rumor that they were going to lay more track? Is this true? Boxcab E50
I don't know but will ask questions while there. The railroad is putting on a photographer's special this coming weekend. Check out Sumpter Valley RR
I'd forgotten all about that web site! I once had it bookmarked. But lost it in one of those ever famous computer glitches. Boxcab E50
Enjoy! I'm actually heading the other way for the weekend, to pick up our travel trailer in Albany. Be sure to check out the Dairy Queen in John Day and its N scale railroad. The burgers are pretty good, too! Pat
Ken, yes they are going to lay more rail. These guys are really impressive. Some of the bigger museums could benefit from their experience. Pat, I did stop and look at the N scale at the DQ in John Day. It, too is impressive. Now, I haven't got my stills processed and this is a low res from my video. I have always wanted to get a reflection shot. Man, this is the place to get them!! Ponds left over from an old gold dredge. More to come when I get prints. It was a wonderful day of railfanning.
Love seeing fall photos. The colors really make trains stand out against their backgrounds. Looking forward to more! Boxcab E50
Jim, Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit! If you come this way again, I'll be happy to set up a visit with some of our local model railroads. That offer goes for anyone else, too! Pat
And, Paul, if anyone could do it justice, that would be you. The Sumpter Valley is a photograper's dream site. I should have prints back Wednesday.
Jim, Any good Shay or geared loco shots ????? I think I remember you saying about having a few of them where you went If so, Can't wait to see 'em!
Jim...That is a beautiful shot what with the reflection in the water, fall trees for background and of coarse the train itself.
Only one set of prints returned today. The best ones should be on the other set which I didn't get. I scanned these on the old flatbed (which I think I will toss) and am not happy with them. Too many other things going on today. Anyway, the Heisler, No. 3 at the reflecting pond, was just after first light. The two together not long after. The one at night is my first attempt at night photography. Thanks to Tom Gildersleeve and Sumpter Valley volunteers for the lighting. Is this place photogenic, or what?
Ken, it was in the 20's early in the mornings there. Take a look at the difference in scanners--this from the slide/neg scanner, same image as before. Should have cleaned the neg a little better. Here's another from that scanner. The Fleet.
Jim - awsome shots, the fall colors and reflections...should have come here first after your trip...are you going to put more of them on your web site?
Its a shame we don't have sound here. I would enjoy hearing those shrill mountain wildcat whistles! Heck, I would even enjoy hearing the throaty moan of a 4-8-8-4 again!
