    About a month ago, I installed a Lenz03 decoder in an Atlas GP40. I use the NCE system. I programmed the decoder and it appears when I set the long address, I entered 2964 instead of 2963 which is the engine number. I called that unit up today as 2963 and the throttle could not pick the unit up. I tried three other throttles, same results. These are NCEcab04 throttles. I put the engine on the programming track and ran it through again. That is when I found the engine number was 2964 so I reset it to 2963 and finished the programming sequence. However, afterwards still could not pick the engine up as 2963 but I could as 2964. Ran it back to the programming track, this time the reprogramming showed the long address as 2963, but still can't assign it as 2963, but I can assign as 2964. So right now I am running it one digit off the cab number. Any ideas????

    I'm not sure if this will work, but a similar problem happened to me with a soundtrax decoder, here's what I did.
    Look up the command to reset to factory defaults in the decoder manual.
    put the loco on the programming track and reset to factory default. Then try and re program to your own number. Think of a decoder as you would a PC built by Gates... you know what I mean. Sometimes they need to be 'booted.
    hope this helps!

    Bob, I have an idea... I know nothing about the NCE system, but on the Digitrax system, you can not acquire a locomotive on two different throttles, nor can two throttles ever have the same address. It's a possibility that when you tried to acquire the loco under 63 the first time, the command station accepted the throttle, but since your decoder was set to 64, it of course, would not respond. Then you re-programmed it to 63 on the programming track, but the command station may have thought another throttle still had 63, and would not let you acquire it. On the Digitrax system, when any throttle has been disconnected from the loconet, and not been active for a certain amount of minutes, the command station beeps three times and purges the throttle from the system. See if you can set your original throttle to 63, and see if it can acquire it. If you can, then re-set the throttle to any other number. Then put 63 back on the tracks and see if you can re-acquire it... Hope this helps MOPAC 1

    MOPAC, NCE allows you to "steal" locos, so this is not the problem. I've had three cabs running the same loco, into the yard, the YM, then the Hostler. Each stole from the previous.

    If the cabs were set to the same address, then the system would freeze. Each cab is given an address, and each loco is given an address.

    I think the factory default program will work for this.

    atsfman, let me go a little further, I looked through some decoder manuals(?) I use that term loosely and most don't have a specific "default" or reset command. But if you go down through the CV list and just enter their values you should be back to factory defaults.

    Another thing about the NCE system. When you use the programming track, the options on the ProCab screen should be something like this (maybe not this order):

    STD=1 CV=2 MFG=3

    use the MFG reset and the NCE system will reprogram the decoder to the default factory settings for you, without having to go find the CVs to do it. (Another nice thing I like about the NCE system.)
