Heavy thunderstorm, the other night. I didn't realize/remember that the computer was sleeping, NOT shut down. Had a CLOSE lightening strike. With out a UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY[UPS]/spike protection, the 'puter did a back flip and I'm still trying to find out what data I lost. Had OLD external memory and have found that it[the memory{Maxtor 500 GB}] is NOT compatible with NEW OS Windows 10. Will be getting NEW external memory, a new UPS and have been advised to try CLOUD STORAGE.
Has anybody else used the CLOUD as a BACKUP and STORAGE? Images, track plans, Train Show Seller's Address Lists etc etc.

    LESSON'S LEARNED:
    1) Bad weather---Make sure the computer is OFF!!!!!
    2) Don't run the Computer WITHOUT spike protection and a UPS.

Now to figure out this CLOUD storage.

I have thought about getting a UPS. I have everything backed up externally. My storage is WD, but not that old. Hopefully compatible with W10.

The simplest solution would be to use something like Dropbox to specify which folders you want to remotely backup, and install it on all devices that you want to sync the data to.

Whats nice is most of these apps generally offer a free tier with a few gb of remote storage in case you lose the original data/device.

Back up your images on thumb drives. jpg files should be compatible with all software.

I should add that my external storages use no software, so are purely files and photos. Also, this method has no ongoing costs, and is at all times totally under my control- no reliance upon anyone or anything outside...

Well have gone with MS The Cloud. After finding how to get in and get started, everything SEEMS to be going OK. Trying figure about how much storage I'm needing. Want to store a lot, but how much is a lot?
Now have found out that OLD external hard drive has gone south. Had stuff on it I really wanted to save. Gonna have to make a trip to my computer guru to see if there is any way to pull a few files off the external drive. Don't need all of them, just a couple with addresses of our Train Show Sellers.
