Here's what I came up with for light storage ... a container to put cars when there is no room on the layout. This is for temporary light stowage, not for shipping or carrying about.

A 34' box car in a medium Micro Train N scale box:

I just wrap the car in a tissue and put the top on:

This was my first piece of HOn30 rolling stock. It started out as a broad gauge HO Poocher "old time" box car that was marketed by AHM, Lifelike and also Bachmann back in the day.

In its HOn30 reincarnation, it has been sectioned to 7' width and channeled so the sill sits 2' above the railhead. The length puts it close to the Bridgeton and Saco 70 series, but it's about a scale foot too high. And I'm OK with that.

    More ........

Combine in an N scale Roundhouse locomotive box. The carbody is 41' long, 47' over the pulling faces. Pay no attention to the untreated joints, this one has not been to the body and paint shop yet.

Noting the F&C bashed passenger car, and thinking of that recent topic, have you tried a coupler conversion? If so, how did that work? Which M/T number did you choose?

Once you snip off the truck mounted couplers, you have a wide open space under the platforms and there are probably several that will work satisfactorily. I settled on the 1023 because it doesn't interfere with the swing of the trucks. The white you see is a .040" styrene shim that levels the mounting area and gives the correct height. I also snip the trip pins since I don't use magnetic uncouplers.

The underframe detail on everything I have built so far varies from "rudimentary" to "non-existant". I'm just trying to get basic proportions and running qualities right first. Detailing can come later.

I tried to get a closer pic for you but it seems that the macro function on this camera doesn't seem to work worth a damn. :rats:
