Out & about this last Saturday, and stopped in Wagoner, OK to catch this southbound coal train changing over from the ex-Katy to the ex-Mop for the rtip to Arkansas. Another ho-hum coalie, right? Weeeellllllll................
That is cool to see. I also like comparing the operations by geography - here in CO a train like that would have had at least 6 units powering it - what a difference terrain makes!
When I lived in Grand Junction, I'd see coal trains head eastbound with 3 units on the lead, two midtrain, and two or three at the rear. All under control of the guy in the lead locomotive.
There are still a few "pure" (aside from the yellow stripe) SP units out there; though its kinda sad to see the scarlet faded away to an almost pinkish tint.
True enough, but how many of us would want to see an SP unit that didn't look like it was well worn? Maybe I'm too used to the tunnel motor look, but faded and grimy always seemed standard for SP to me!
Saw one pass thru Lloyd Yard in Spring, Texas a few days ago. I think it was number 343. In the past week I've seen maybe 2-3 patched AC4400CWs going thru there.
