Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum will be running a 100 mile round trip from Chattanooga, TN to Summerville, GA on the 30th of Sept. The power for the train will be TVRM 610. 2-8-0 I thought that I would pass this along as if you are able to chase the train, you can get some awesome pics or videos. for more info: http://www.tvrail.com The other trains that they will be running in October for the Autum leaf specails will have a diesle helper behind the steamer.
Cool!!! Whereabouts is Summerville? I have to work that night, but hey, some things ya gotta sacrifice, like sleep, for the important things in life. Macon's about 81 miles south of Atlanta, so I figure I gotta go around that mess to get where I need to go. Is it on any ex-CofG trackage?
The trip will be running on old Central of Georgia :w20z6q: track from just south of 23rd ST. in Chattanooga. It will be passing thru Rossville, Chickamauga, Rock Springs, Lafayette, Trion and into Summerville. The route follows Hwy 27 for the most part. Summerville is north west of Rome approx. 40 miles. The best thing thing I can say is to look at a map and look west of Dalton for the towns mentioned above. Here are some links to pics that I have taken in the past of these trips. http://stewarttrains_98.rrpicturearchives.net/archivethumbs.aspx?id=7726 http://stewarttrains_98.rrpicturearchives.net/archivethumbs.aspx?id=6386 If you need more info, let me know.
most of what I will be shooting will be slides, last year the day that I went they had the diesle with the train. Since this will be steam only, I am going to burn some major slides. The digi camera that I have does a ok job, but I will try a few more this yr than I did the last. Have a friend that may go with that has a good DSLR, so maybe I can borrow his pics to show ya'll.
What time is this train leaving Chattanooga for the trip south? That alone will determine whether or not I can shoot it, as I get off work in Macon around 8:00 AM, and it'll be after 9:30 before I hit Atlanta (even tho this Pontiac G6 rental car has some oomph in the engine.....gotta change from scrubs to regular clothes), and extra time to navigate that mess to get to the towns named.
Well I guess you wont like this reply, but it leaves at 0900. I know that if you are like me you perfer the steamer and no diesle. But if you can not make this trip, here is a link that will help you out. It is the schedule for the rest of the major GA trips, but with the diesle behind the steamer. http://tvrail.com/pages/schedule/autumnleafspecial.html So if in the event the weather does not cooperate, there are other days. This is the only trip that I will be able to chase due to the fact I have to go west in Oct.
Due to several circumstances beyond my control (And some I could), I had to take a rain check on the steam trip. Hope someone got pics, and can post 'em here. I DID get out to the fair here in Macon, and found the layouts opperated by the local model RR club- both HO and N. Plus got a pic of a Texas longhorn steer who really appreciated my scratching his head between & behind his horns. Poor fella.......we both have something in common- too far from home.....sigh.......
