Three or four days ago i saw a steam engine in heavener. The funny thing is that on the way from Kansas city the kcs engine that was helping it along broke down.So the steam engine pulled its train of 7 or 8 passenger cars and the other engine all the way to Heavener. It was pretty cool to watch. Its somthing you dont see everyday.
That was probably the SP 745, restored by the LASTA in New Orleans. The engine was in KC for a long time and has been running excursions before returning to NO. I'm not sure, though. :teeth:
The railfan community usually talks about these events. Hadn't heard about this activity. Anyone seen photos on the 'Net? Boxcab E50
There has been some chatter about it on the yahoo TNO group. Evidently it broke down in Page, Oklahoma. Some of the passenger cars dead headed through Fort Worth on the Amtrak Texas Eagle.
That is correct. 745 came thru here on it's tour around Louisiana and Mississippi. It had been restored and KCS put their lettering on it. After that tour the locomotive was supposed to be parked in a musume never to move again but aparently when Katrina hit that made a change of plans. They may have seen this hurricain coming so decided to get it out of there. "better safe than sorry" (?)
According to their web site, they plan to keep the engine running whenever and wherever they can. Latest update there:
This sounds like great news! Despite reading of mechanical setbacks, I hope KCS will remain friendly to their cause. Boxcab E50
