The only thing I can hear on the Boyer west is the detector auto cast from MP 11.7 main two ( two track main from just north of Hayden to Sagle about 25-30 miles they put in about 5-6 years ago now goes all the way to the lake bridge into Sdpt ) and MP 8.5 and I have no idea where that is . I did get a DS last nite on a train just south of Athol with a broken something or other , the Senior DS had the train call the maint dept to see what they said and the DS put him on the Athol siding until they heard back from maint super. well the maint super calls the train ( which I cannot hear ) and tells the train he is ok to procede and about 30 minutes later the train makes the crossing by my house . I cannot hear any triains on the radio , just the DS of some sort and the two dectectors at those MP's. dull . I got the UP channels ok and heard somebody talking to somebody but not sure what was going on.. I am going to get a good ext outsde antennia as this lettle whipy thing is only good for about 8-10 miles me thinks.

Yesterday Tim Christensen and myself installed a new radio feed to augment the ATCS layout for the Spokane and Kootenai River subs. This feed is using a Motorola Spectra radio with a high gain antenna. It's located very close to the Sandpoint BNSF/Amtrak depot.

Thanks for the info Gary. What type of antenna did you install? I am thinking of adding a DPD TrainTenna , the LP directional has about a 9db gain at 169$ or the Omni-directional at 3 db gain at half the cost ( 79$) . Been pretty quiet. I got chatter from the 41 West DS on my scanner but nothing from RR feed site . I'll keep listening.

It's a 5/8 wave groundplane. It was pretty quiet yesterday. After about three days Tim will check all of the settings again. I'm hearing a pop in the audio on the smartphone feed that we need to look into. It will take a couple of weeks to dial everything in and have the kinks worked out. I did hear an engine down in Ramsey and the MRL detectors quite a ways out.

    Paul-

The top four of these I'd sent to you a week or so ago. I doubted you would be able to receive the POVA, so did not include it. Wasn't thinking about their operation to Dover, ID. Oops.

Actually, "POVA" is the AAR assigned designation of the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad. It is not the 'Ponderay Valley Authority'. They do not have the ability to tax for operating funds, so is not an "authority". The POVA is locally owned by the Port of Pend Oreille.

On my scanner I would not have been able to pick them up. Since the POVRR picks up lumber at Idaho Forest Products ( formerly Riley Creek ) Laclede about 15 miles to the west, Tim's/Gary's antenna should be able to catch the very brief transmissions from their office to the engine.. still ya never know. yesterday I caught the MRL autocast from MP 111.8 ( where ever that is ) I think and just a few BNSF. Should be busier today me thinks. I still need to get a better antenna for my Uniden .. begining to feel like the old search and destroy missions .... any body catches me toolin down the road in a V-100 , please call the guys in the white coats ... :) just kidding .. actually it would be a M-113 or an M-35A ...

MP 111.8 is about seven miles east of the junction in Sandpoint. Probably a detector.

M-113... All I can remember is leaking gas and fluids. Noisy, breakdowns....

Leaking gas bomb, and the new ones are aluminum .. might stop a BB .... 111.8 is defect dector ... funny as that is the same freq listed as UP Seattle motor freight . far enuf away won't interfer .. unless some poor truck driver gets lost LOL , I did once in LA .. well once or twice actually.. ok, I'm done

I can remember being on the firing range, using old M-113 as targets for practice for 90 and 105 rifles. When a round would hit, there'd be a bright orange spalsh as it entered one side, then quickly a second as it exited, unexploded, unless it hit something beyond the target.... Great protection for the victims inside.

I used to have a Uniden Sportcat scanner (XL150?), which I bought for railfanning. I programmed all 97 AAR channels into it, with the remainder being used for other frequencies, such as police and airports.

    Hey Dieter,
Yea , so far I only have the UP and BNSF channels programed . I will eventually get the police etc , they not too busy around here ( North Idaho ) so no real hurry to get them . We got a feed from Radio Reference .com for the Sandpoint - Spokane sub , I know it is working but hardly anything comes thru, I have been getting all kinds of chatter from UP and BNSF on my scanner ,not sure why I am not hearing it from the feed... I like my scanner , I am going to put up a high gain antenna at the house to help improve the reception from those further down the line from my house .

    Sandpoint Radio Feed Update.

This afternoon Tim replaced the Motorola Spectra with another Spectra radio. Now we have lots of chatter. The first radio was suffering from memory loss in the scan cycle. So give the feed a listen now.
