Does anyone have photographic evidence or know where there are pictures of U-25B's with pilot plows? The few pictures I have and have seen show them as not having plows. TIA Greg
Greg, checked all the pics of the U25Bs, even in the dead line, and one ready for scrapping, and did not see any with plows. Bill

Greg: I just add a "Me too," on that. I looked at Joe Strapac's SP Historic diesel series and found no plows. A very good place for all this info is on the Espee Historical Society list (Espee List) on Yahoo. The only poroblem there, for me, is that they are not so model oriented. There is a lot of information about what kind of nails were used to build a station, etc. It is interesting, but my time is filling up with modeling and I an becoming less interested in the Espee operation details.
I never did join that list Flash. I too felt it had too much reading for the info that I could use. So what scale are you modeling the SP in? I don't model the SP per say but needed an engine for transfer moves and picked up a nice U25B. I model in S and O by the way. Greg
Greg: I am in N scale. An all switching layout with the San Antonio East yard as the focal point. I just make up trains and send them to staging. When they comeback from staging, I break them down and make up a new train. Also, a few locals. I really like the flat switching.
Flat switching is fun. I like your plan, of make a train and have it depart. My idea is to have a staging yard with trains come onto the layout and set cars out for local industries and leave. A small yard and industries to serve can really be interesting. That is why I like branch lines and short lines. One or two engines are enough and a half dozen cars with the good ol caboose. The transfer run from the Espee adds the foreign element that allows me to have the Espee unit with all my WP power. Greg

>Hope it helps with whatever your doing. It will if and when I do a road other than SP. Thanks for the great links to other U25B's. My unit already has a good SP paint job and I wanted to keep it SP. Now the Rock Island unit could be a unit that leaks in on an SP train. I still haven't found any shots of SP U25B's with plows. Thanks again, Greg
