The Delaware & Hudson gets most of the attention for being ALCO powered. Although it has been 37 years the SP&S Ry was the west coast equal of the D&H. The SP&S was mostly an Alco road with S-1, S-2, RS-1, RS-2, RS-3, FA-1, FB-1,FA-2 C-415, C-424, C-425, And C-636 locomotives. The SP&S slogan "The Northwests Own Railway" sure was true. SP&S might have been owned by GN & NP but went its own way with class.
Mr. SP, personally I prefer their Baldwin power, notably No. 700. But then I am a steam curmudgeon. :teeth:
SP&S The 700 is a beautiful locomotive. Sure is much better to see it running and being maintained instead of rusting away in the park. As for the other SP&S steam locomotive the 539 I've heard that it is going to the Grand Canyon railroad.
From what I have heard, the 539 is indeed bound for Arizona. Which makes me both sad, and mad. It should be staying close to home. Boxcab E50
Actually it is IN Arizona, at the Grand Canyon. Unloaded off flatcars. Heck, they may already have started work on her, don't know. :teeth:
Who knows, but maybe the Grand Canyon could purchase a GN and an NP engine proper. They already run a former Q one.
Yeah and then we could paint em all green and recreate the BN merger in steam!! :wink2::laugh::laugh: (OK, I'm ducking now, fire away. )
