Anyone know of a source of these decals in N scale? And while we're at it, how about a decoder for the Bachman doodlebug? Thanks, Ed Harrison PS: The photo is from the Unofficial SRS page by by William E. Miller ------------------ Ed's Mental Cab Ride

quote:
Originally posted by ten87: ...how about a decoder for the Bachman doodlebug?

I lucked into a site by Fred at the Armadillo and Western that details decoder installation on the Bachman doodlebugs. It is an interesting technique of putting the decoder on the undercarrage. Dana W. Zimmerli has instructions for installing a DN146A decoder inside the doodlebug. Now if I can just find those decals... Ed Harrison ------------------ Ed's Mental Cab Ride
Ed, I think the decals would be a job for an ALPS printer. Providing you can find a suitable font, and someone with an ALPS, it would be an easy fix. Is there any lettering on the upper side of the car? I do recall seeing Sperry Rail Services spelt out in a Roman-style font at some point. Maybe that was the local SRS units here. Gary, If you look at the photo above, you can see the "Sperry Rail Service" in black along the side. Right above that it has a stylized SRS in white. I've been able to find SRS decals by Champion in HO scale, so I'm going to order a sheet or two in the hope that there is a smaller door sized logo that will be the right size for N scale. This whole thing started when my son wanted a doodlebug for Christmas, and I cringed at the thought of it running on my current era layout. Then I saw the Walther's advertisement for the HO scale SRS car, and set upon this mission... Ed ------------------ Ed's Mental Cab Ride
Also to go along with this. What color would be a good match for the Yellow? Either a Custom mix or a premade would be suitable. This question is also in the inspection pit.
So that is what it says! Don't you just hate when something like this bites you? Drew, maybe reefer yellow with a couple of drops of orange. Or CAT yellow... Gaty. ------------------ Gary A. Rose The Unofficial TC&W page TrainBoard Moderator and Member No.377 N to the Nth degree!
Seems to me that a mix of the UP yellow and the SF yellow would work. The UP looks to dark and the SF to bright. About the decals. Check Micro Scales Gothic style (and other syles) lettering to see if one will match. I am sure there is a match. I have two different lettering sheets and I will check later to see if one would work. Good luck! ------------------ Craig Martyn Best Looking Models Around Custom detailing AND N scale detail parts.
quote:
Originally posted by ten87: Anyone know of a source of these decals in N scale?

I picked up two sets of Champs BRH-200 Sperry Rail Detector decals in HO. It is two sheets, one black and one white, with both modern and older schemes. There are road numbers and logos that are designed for the doors on HO cars, but look about right for the big logos in N scale. It certainly isn't exact, but it's close enough for my purposes.
quote:
Originally posted by Drew Aldridge: ...a suitable color for painting Sperry Rail Service Cars.

I should point out that Drew is painting my doodlebug for me, so you may have noticed his question in the Inspection Pit on this same topic. Every reference I could find for SRS talked about "School Bus Yellow." I went to the "prototype" Collins Bus Specifications and found that they paint their busses "Chrome Yellow." In doing some research, the military and government vendors (like school bus makers), use Federal Standard (FS) numbers to spec paints. Here is a link to the FS paint charts. My guess is that Chrome Yellow busses are FS:33538 Chrome Yellow. According to the FS coding, Testors Model Master Chrome Yellow is the right color, but high gloss. The gloss is better for decaling anyway and dullcoat will take care of the shine. I couldn't find any N scale decals for the proiject, but I ordered Champs HO decals and found that some of the smaller door emblems in HO scale will work for the side panel emblems in N scale. Not to drive home the point, but check out these two for a match... ------------------ Ed Harrison Ed's Mental Cab Ride [This message has been edited by ten87 (edited 24 December 2000).]
