I have an Athearn challenger 4-6-6-4 and I am trying to understand why speed step 2 is a lot faster in reverse than forward! I’ve tried to change the the steps in the speed table but it doesn’t change the forward verses reverse speeds. I’ve tried using the reverse trim and it doesn’t seem to change it either. My FP7As and B seem to do the same speeds per step forward and reverse. Any ideas? Thanks Dan Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The simple answer is that all motors are not the same in both directions. In fact, I have some Kato locomotives that are significantly faster in one direction or the other. I have an SD 45 that has CV66=88 and CV95=28 so they match a speed of 70 smph in both directions. This is not normal but it does happen. Is your Challenger using the MRC or the Soundtraxx decoder? Not all decoders support TRIM. The MRC decoders in the first release do not support TRIM and not all SoundTraxx decoders support TRIM either.
