What colors was it really? In drawings, sometimes it's deep yellow and black. Sometimes it's yellow and dark green, like the CNW or the Reading. Photos show colors closer to the first set, but the yellow looks somewhat orange or tan. Maybe it just looked that way when it was old, since the pictures usually date from the BN era... Anyone got pictures of a clean new loco in this scheme to clarify things?
Triplex, Depends on which scheme you're looking at. The first scheme was a dark green, like a Pullman green, and NP Gold. The later scheme was a darker green, which faded to a darker brown, and a yellow, much like NP Yellow, which tended to fade to a tan color. I think it's the later scheme I'm thinking of - remember, I said I mostly saw it in BN-era pics. Very dark green fading to dark brown and yellow fading to tan - that sounds like what I see. I guess I'm referring to types G-7 and S-7 from this page, since they appear to have been their standard freight scheme from 1964 to 1970. http://www.spshs.org/res/paint.html
I did a couple FAs for a friend. For the green I used Pullman green. Can't think right off hand which yellow I used. Came out really good. Gotta remember too if you weather your stuff, you can get away with a green or yellow that is "close enough".
It's been years since I painted an SP&S diesel scheme. I don't recall which green I used. Except it wasn't Pullman Green. But seems to me I added a little black. Boxcab E50
Got home and double checked. It was CP Yellow and Pullman Green from Polly S that I used for the FAs.
