Afternoon All, Just a short note to let you all know that early this week someone broke into the Portland roundhouse where the SP&S 700 lives and stole the two sided steam gauge from the locomotive. Please keep an eye out for this item to appear on eBay or other sites in the next few months. I don't expect it will surface until the skum who has it figures the heat is off and they think they can move it for a quick dollar. I will donate a black & white CCTV cam and a power supply to the group to help with security. All I am asking is someone to come up with a heated and cooled outdoor housing and the RG59u coax and a small monitor for the camera. All of the items can be purchested on line. I also have a comment for the person or persons involved in this stupid act. Don't let me find you first. If I do you will be very sorry for being so stupid. Strange. To take something that specific. There were probably other gems on the loco a thief might have coveted. Almost seems as though they knew what they were looking for....... Boxcab E50
Two sided steam pressure gauges are fairly rare. We have one on our old Baldwin Mike, but along with other cab features, we keep it in the walk-in safe during the off season. A couple of years ago, someone stole the water column from the McCloud RR's #25 and it was never recovered. They had to build another one from scratch. I'd love to catch someone taking something from a locomotive .. I believe it's a federal offense and offenders don't get much of a break when doing federal time.
YoHo, It was my understanding from the report I got that the only loco to be targeted was the 700. Who ever has the gauge had to be in or around the 700 to see it. If I hear of any other items being stolen I will let you all know. Bill, This is off the subject, but my wife and I will be traveling through the Yreka area on Sat the 24 of April. Is there any thing going on that weekend and will you be there? Shannon WP LIVES (no matter what the UP says) [ 11. April 2004, 04:11: Message edited by: Shannon ]
Ironically, I'll be back in Oregon that weekend. I've only been down here a couple weeks, so I don't know much about what's going on. I don't know what kind of time you have for railroading, but you should at least stop by the Santa Fe depot in Downtown San Diego.
