Well I recently decided to back up to my origonal modeling plans instead of copying railroads that other club members modeled. This bought me back to the old SP. I decided to model my motive power (most of it) on my birth year (1994). Heres all my current modeling projects. Cotton Belt GP40R #7964 Atlas/roco model currently wearing UP colors, I got this in a Roco DCC starter set my mom got for me once. Sadly the controller, track, and cars are all dead now, but the engine lives on. I'm going to make this model into a GP40R. SP/CB used these units on either side of a TEBU (Traction Effort Booster Unit) for logging or stone trains. Proto picture: http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/gp40-r_photos/7964sl_ssw-gp40r-rolland_rodway.jpg I have the parts to make the TEBU, and if anybody has another Atlas/Roco GP40 there willing to get rid of, i might consider buying it to put on the other side of the TEBU. Southern Pacific GP9R torpedo tube #3189 P2K I bought this in march and I was going to sell it until i found out that SP had units without dynamics running as GP9 torpedo tubes. This one is gonna become #3189. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/gp09p_photos/3189_sp-gp9p-bob_dengler.jpg Southern Pacific GP9R #3848 P2K A GP9 I got a few weeks ago. This ought to look good in SP. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/gp09e_photos/3848_sp-gp9e-lee_gautreaux.jpg Southern Pacific GP9R #3388 P2K another P2K GP9 http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/gp09e_photos/3388_sp-gp9e-rob_sarberenyi.jpg
a few more Southern Pacific SD7R #1506 P2K Another Proto Unit. One of my personal favorite engine types (my favorite being geeps and Cadillac's). This one I'm going to model as 1506 as it was one of the few SD7's that retained there double fuel tanks. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/sd07_photos/1506_sp-sd07r-bob_dengler.jpg Southern Pacific SD9 #4438 Athearn Bluebox Already in SP. But I'm going to put it in bloody nose and modernize it. I like the things on the roof to break icicles. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/sd09e_photos/4438_sp-sd09e-bob_dengler.jpg Southern Pacific GP40-2 #7951 ATHEARN BLUEBOX It's drivetrain isn't in this picture because its having a break in period. I looked at pictures of SP GP40-2's and loved the night shot this unit is in. The orange monster behind it is a failed repaint from when i was like 9 or so. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/gp40-2_photos/7951_sp-gp40-2-dan_klitzing.jpg Southern Pacific RS-11 #2927 Atlas/kato/roco I know, these where long past gone in 1994, but they look cool, so heck, why not. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/rs11_photos/2927b_sp-rs11-terry_kirkland.jpg
Southern Pacific SDP40/SDP45? #3201 ATHEARN BLUEBOX This one is a model of an SDP40. I know SP didn't have any, but i'm not too much of a rivet counter i'll let it fly as an SDP45. This one may be my only Kodachrome unit. http://espee.railfan.net/picindex/kodachromes/3201_kevin_stevens_spsf-sdp45.jpg Southern Pacific GP38 #161 atlas master series sorry for the bad image lighting. I can't find any pictures of them, but i do see a bunch of GP38's on SP's roster in 1994. Southern Pacific F45 #7012 athearn bluebox i know, i know, fictional alert. I found a Gap in SP's 1994 roster and i have a series of F45's running from 7000-7014. Southern Pacific GP15-1 #2819 I bought up a thread about this one awhile back. I put the -1's in the 2800-2825 series. and since i want to eventually get some with dynamics I'll put those in the 2830-2880 series. these units will have ditch lights along with a small light package.
Southern Pacific F9AM/BM #621/724 these used to be genesis black widow F3's. they got put into BN, soon they will be back in SP, but with bloody nose. I'll weather these units up really good and use them in helper service. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/f-unit_photos/0724_tno-f9bm-frank_brehm.jpg http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/f-unit_photos/0621_sp-f9am-leo_pesce.jpg last one Southern Pacific GP38-2 #4825 Ought to be a fun project. the real 4825 had 4 exhaust stacks installed vs the regular 2. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/gp38-2_photos/4825_tom_fassett-sp_gp38-2.jpg I may hire somebody to do some of these units. But I will do most of them.
Looks like you got your work cut out for you. You have quite a few engines, looking forward to seeing some progress on some of them
well i picked up a giant can of grey spray paint at home depot today. Its the closest colors to SP i Could find. I already have a can of paint for the red. tomorrow in the morning the GP40-2 and RS-11 are hitting the paint booth.
Southern Pacific GP40-2 #7951 is now wearing SP grey. I'm going to let the paint dry, then I'll mask it and add red. I'll have pictures soon.
been awhile since i posted, so heres a small update. during the application of the second coat of grey on #7951, some paint that had been hardening in the can burst out and the can head kinda burst on the engine. the hood and part of the rear got splattered. so i need to strip it and try again.
This has been the "hot" project on my workbench for awhile: Model by Paul Ellis photo - David Hussey photos at pbase.com Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to work on it since WPM. Photo shot by Dave Hussey, at WPM 2009.
Metro: Me either. HOORAY!! Geep fan: Oboy, I'd keep that SD-9 in Black Widow if I were you. Just say that it was sneaking around the Siskyous for a few years and forgot to come in for the Bloody Nose repainting, LOL! Love that Black Widow scheme! Tom :tb-biggrin:
