After building a layout in On30, I'm looking at building a Z scale micro-layout as a change of pace. To this end, I'm looking at using the 3D printed models by The Z Maker. Specifically, the 0-6-0 tank engine and SW1200, to depict a small freight terminal in the 1950s. My original plan was to set it in New York City, however I couldn't find any New York Central decals in Z scale. Plan B is to set it in Chicago, and have the terminal served by the ATSF. However, while the 0-6-0 has appropriate decals available for this railroad and era, the SW1200 does not. The only ones I could seem to find for the SW1200 were the yellow-and-blue livery that the ATSF used in the 1960s and 1970s. As such, can someone point me to a source for either: - New York Central steam shunter & SW1200 decals? - ATSF SW1200 zebra stripe livery decals?
Danny, Your best bet is to look at decals by https://k4decals.com/ I’ve bought Z scale decals from them. They are well made and have a large selection of decals. John
Here's a source that might help on the SW1200 decals: The Z Maker Here on his webpage specifically: Decals - ATSF Pinstripe SW1200 — The Z Maker
Thank-you to everyone who replied. I've now found a source for decals for the New York Central, which will allow me to go with my original concept for the micro-layout. Namely, a freight terminal in New York harbour, served by car float.
Danny, Glad you found a source. Who did you end up getting your decals from? And can you let us know how you like them? Scott
Another source for Z scale decals is www.cmrproducts.com. The set I bought was well made and legible, but I haven’t tried applying it yet. From K4 I bought a set for Bessemer gondolas, but the logo didn’t turn out very well, like maybe he was using photoshop instead of a vector graphics program. I’ll try it anyway and weather that part of the car. Going to try again from K4, he has such a great selection I could be decaling cars for the rest of my life.
