I see Fleischmann in Europe are to sell a forthcoming diesel in double unit packs, one unit with motor, the other with sound decoder. I think this would be a great idea for Atlas or Kato to pick up, especially for the smaller geeps.

Considering the woeful pulling power of US N scale diesels and the longer trains we run, at least a two to one ratio of powered units might be needed if you're going to be dragging around a bit more dead weight. Good idea though, I did a similar thing with a sound decoder in a baggage car, but then sound decoders are now getting small enough to go into the smaller engines, MRC make a drop in decoder for the Atlas U23B and are supposedly working on one for the Kato NW2. We need others to pick up on that idea.
