LOL Adam, you are on. Actually, that would be five of us here in mountain country. Four grumpy old mountain men and one desert rat who is a honorary mountain man...me. Which makes me extra grumpy, mean and nasty. hee hee hee Add, George, plus another desert rat JohhnyB. and any others that wish to join and we got's us a new organization or is that a railroad nation? Adam, since you are the GRA originator that makes you the acting president. LOL
You're on. Despite still being under 40 I feel I am getting into advanced stages of crusty old grump-hood already. Shall we call the first GRA meeting to order? Here's the NEM gauge. All: "NORM!" (in the style of Cheers)
Ha ha ha. Works for me! hiccup...burp....Or:we2-jimlad: "Everything normal, all ........ up." Well...I don't think I'm allowed to say that. LOL
Question about gauges Ok I just remembered that my first Wheel gauge was actually part of the Micro-Trains 1050 Coupler Starter Kit. So, is it the same as the NMRA N Scale Standards Gauge? I still haven’t found the other gauge so I don’t have anything to compare with.
Its kinda funny, I might not be "normal" but I have NEVER re guaged anything----ever. Yet I have no problems. Just lucky ???......Mike
I am with you "Lucky Mike". I have never had to regauge any of my DIESEL Locomotives. I never owned a STEAMER...till now. The 4-8-4 was given to me by BarstowRick and I knew it was 'broken' before he sent it. THE Wife ...really wanted a steamer for her S Excursion train. After checking it out I found it was unfixable and I sent it to Bachmann. They decided to send me a NEW one. Right out of the box it would pick switches. After receiving a NEW NMRA Gauge...I found the drivers to be far enough out of gauge...I started this thread. I still contend NEW stuff should NOT be out of gauge straight out of the box. I stand by that. I know you arent saying it...but...those offering excuses for the manufactures will NOT change my mind either. JMO .
Japanese prototypes are obviously Kato's bread-and-butter (sushi and wasabi?) but I seriously doubt they put out more European than North American trains. They have a USA headquarters after all, and don't have a similar division in Europe. "KATO does not produce many European N-Scale items. On average, only two new models are produced each year." http://www.nscaledivision.com/kato_european.htm
w1gbv Johnny, You are good with the MT wheel gauge. Pretty much the same and as the NMRA. Sorry no NEM gauges to send you. Besides, we don't need to add anymore confusion to this already very interesting discussion. But yeah, you are good to go with the MT gauge. Black helicopters? You need to move to Big Bear Lake, CA. We see those bad boys almost on a reqular basis. Never mind what else we see but that is usually influenced by the home brew boys. Gauging wheelsets. Unlike some of the rest of you I have a lot of older equipment where the wheels slide up and down the axles. Part of what I was talking about in a "Lament" over on another board. The first thing I check in a derailment is the gauge of the wheels. Adam, Salute to our new leader of the GRA. So, when are we holding the first convention? First thing on the docket..."Get rid of the NEM standards" Time to shut down them bad boys down. LOL Second thing on the docket, editing time..... grrrrrr! Not LOL! Ok one more edit p grrumph, well that didn't work... Last edit, here we go....tongue: Did I beat the clock? shhizzlemeslepsbadboystatTB nogoodadmysterbrewryshnoopsies What? What? What did he say? My two cents. From the grumpiest of the grumpy GRA's.
George, I totally agree with ya. They should be correctly guaged when we get um. Possibly I've just had better luck? Who knows ....Mike
I don't know, I think his dentures fell out. We'll try that line again after the fixodent sets. Or may be we should be using CA? PHHT!!
So report time! I went to every train shop I know of within an hour drive of me here in RLP, Not a single one had a NEM gauge, most of them said that they don't exist, and the all said that when they need to gauge their wheels, check track gauging, etc, they use...........wait for it............ AN NMRA GAUGE. [/thread]
