Here are some pics of a scratch building project I have been working on for my HO scale layout. It will be placed in an open pit type mining operation to actually load the "coal" cars. The excavtor is fully functional, with 4 motors and gear boxes to drive it, just visible in on shot (under the table) I have a 4 meg .avi file I can upload somewhere that shows it working is anyone is interested. Final painting and detailing is yet to be done. Hope y'all like it.
That is really great!! So is the entire model animated, or just the backhoe? I love animation and will be doing stuff like this once my coal mine district is built ! John
That is too cool! I can't wait to see it loading cars! Of course, you'll then have to get the operational coal dump scratchbuilt too! Way to go!! Great modeling! [ 13 February 2002, 16:53: Message edited by: Pete ]
Thank you for your kind comments. To answer the questions... Yes the entire unit is animated, the cab, both booms, and the bucket move as they would on the 1:1 Yes I designed the unit myself, much trial and error You can see it in action here.. Unit filling and emptying bucket and here.. Close up of bucket loading Also this the controller for it.. Anything else you'd like to know about it, just ask Edward
Edward. Even though I am into N scale I envy your skill and ability to design and build something like this. This is really great.
HOLY MOO!!!!!!!!! That is WAY TOO COOL! Queation though, does the cat mind you cleaning out the litter box that way?
I would liked to have seen the action movie, but my old tinkertoy computer says it couldn't get adequate decompression, but I could hear some noise in the backgraound. It took three cups of coffee to down load, so maybe I didn't hold my mouth right. Are all the motors inside, or are some under the table? Does the tracks move it foreward and backward to position for loading?
Hi Watash All the motors are beneath the table, the earlier version I built had the motors above in the body of it with the hope of powering the tracks. With the motors above it was too large and bulky. I really wanted the tracks powered but it was not to be. The clicking in the .AVI are the controls for it, momentary DPDT switches. Other than the tracks, which were taken from a tank model and the motor/gearboxes everything else was built from scratch. The motor/gearboxes are from a bascule (sp?) bridge kit from about 20+ years ago. I'll post some more pics when the final painting and detailing is done, which probably won't be for a while as I am starting on the rotary dumper to empty the cars, plus building the rest of the layout. BTW I get many great ideas from all the other members postings, and if I can be half as good as Paul T's I'll be happy Regards Edward
For cthippo... the cats don't seem to mind, but I have to keep telling them its' a mining railroad NOT logging Edward
